Three Strategies of FFU to Resolve Faults in Clean Rooms

2025.08.22
Because clean rooms have different levels of requirements according to different application needs, such as 10-level, 100-level, 10,000-level, etc., this makes clean rooms have some unavoidable problems. However, the emergence of FFU has relatively solved these problems:
(1) Using FFU can save space and solve the problem of limited repair space at the top of the clean room ceiling. For high-level clean rooms (such as 100-level rooms), high-level laminar hoods are needed to handle technical requirements. On the upper part of the clean room ceiling, there will be numerous supply air static pressure boxes, and ventilators will be established inside these static pressure boxes. These static pressure boxes, along with supply and return air ducts, occupy a large amount of space, making the repair space become narrow and sometimes even affecting the use of fire escape routes.
However, when using FFU, the ceiling of the clean room is divided into several modules, each of which is an FFU. Thus, we can adjust each module (i.e., FFU) to meet the pressure balance requirements of the supply air static pressure boxes on the upper part of the ceiling, thereby greatly reducing the need for the height of the static pressure box. At the same time, it can save countless supply and return air ducts, thus saving installation space. Especially in renovation projects where the ceiling height is restricted, FFU effectively solves this problem.
(2) The independent structural characteristics of FFU allow for immediate adjustment, compensating for the lack of mobility of the clean room, and thus solving the defect of production technology that cannot be adjusted.
The maintenance structure of the clean room is generally made of metal wall panels. After construction, the design cannot be changed arbitrarily. However, due to the continuous update of production technology, the original clean room planning for the cleanliness cannot meet the needs of new technologies, causing the clean room to frequently change due to product replacement, resulting in a lot of waste of financial and material resources. If the number of FFUs is increased, the cleanliness planning of the room can be partially adjusted to meet the changes in technology, and FFU comes with its own power, air outlets, and lamps, thus saving a lot of investment. This is almost impossible to achieve the same effect for general centralized air supply purification systems.
(3) The FFU system is energy-efficient, thus solving the problem of large air conditioning machine rooms and increased operating costs of air conditioning units in centralized air supply.
If a single clean room in a large factory building has a high cleanliness level requirement, then centralized air supply air conditioning units with large air volume are necessary, with high fan pressure heads, to overcome the resistance of ducts and the resistance of initial, intermediate, and high-efficiency filters, to meet the cleanliness requirements of these rooms. This will cause the overall operation cost of the air conditioning to increase, while the cleanliness performance of the rooms with higher cleanliness levels may not meet the needs. Moreover, the centralized air supply system only requires the air conditioning unit to malfunction, which will cause the entire clean room to stop operating.
(4) Negative pressure sealing
The static pressure box of the FFU supply air system is negative pressure, so even if there is leakage at the air outlet, it will leak from the clean room to the static pressure box, and will not cause pollution to the clean room.
