Air purifiers have become extremely popular this winter. I was fortunate enough to be involved in the air purification industry over the past few years. Here, I would like to share some of my own thoughts.
Before 2012, the selling point of air purifiers was mainly about how to deal with indoor pollution caused by renovations. Due to the prevailing public perception at that time, air purifiers did not become popular. In the winter of 2012, when the public learned about something called "smog" through foreign media rather than official media, air purifiers suddenly became very popular. I remember there was a very classic joke at that time: "The air pollution value measured by the US embassy is very high, the air is not good, which only means that the air in the US is bad and has nothing to do with our country!" This unembellished statement created by the spokesperson of the news rubbed the public's eyes and became a joke for a while.
Nowadays, the public basically knows that "fog" and "smog" are not the same thing. At the same time, the public also understands that PM2.5 and PM10 are not the same. Of course, under the pressure of various public opinions, the testing standard for PM10 has been quickly thrown into the trash heap, while the determination standard for PM2.5 has become a consensus among all parties, and there is no longer any dispute about the severity of the harm of "smog" to the human body. All the above information is no longer surprising!
Recently, frequent questions have emerged about how "smog" is generated, what its source is, how to control it, and how long it will last. These questions have been debated for several years in the past and still have no definite conclusion. Next comes the booming sales of air purifiers.
In the winter of 2012 and 2013, air purifiers were in a state of explosive demand. I believe many manufacturers had cases of selling out. At that time, no matter what kind of air purifier was launched, as long as it was on the market, regardless of whether it was useful or not, sales were very good. Taking advantage of the emerging Internet affairs, many people added many gimmicks on it, such as avant-garde appearance, test devices, display screens, touch screens, remote control APP, and so on. Anything that could be done in the current era was eager to be added to the air purifier.
So, people overlooked the most important question: What was I using this air purifier for? If there was no purification effect, what was the use of buying it? Finally, in 2014, there was a rational return, and more attention was paid to the purification effect of air purifiers. So the brands that were previously very popular seem not to be as popular anymore. Of course, air purifiers themselves also have many indicators, such as PM2.5 filtration effect, air volume, noise, energy consumption, etc. But the most important thing is a filtration effect, a device that can provide a large air volume and has a good particle filtration effect, has started to be in demand. What about the appearance, the remote control APP, the touch screen, all of these seem to be less important for a while.
Then, I never expected that someone used an FFU at home. Selling FFUs for thirteen years, if it weren't for someone recently telling me that someone was using FFUs at home, I would never believe it. From the beginning of accepting this matter to selling some household FFUs myself, it took no more than half a month.
What is an FFU? The topic will be relatively long. FanFilter Unit - a fan and filter unit used in high-level clean workshops. If it comes to filtration effect, there is no need to say - but when used in the workshop for manufacturing nano-level integrated circuits, what about PM2.5, that's just a small case, they can achieve 99.999995% filtration effect for PM 0.12 or even smaller particles. When it comes to air volume, there is no need to say either - ordinary 2*4ft can provide 1000CMH air volume, that's a technical superiority over 99% of air purifiers. The question is: Is this kind of thing overkill for use at home? Also, since this item is originally for industrial use, with sharp edges and being hard, does it pose any safety risks at home? Therefore, if it is truly to be used in the civilian sector, it needs to be processed and modified. However, if one has already become intolerant of smog and desires clean air, then its performance will not disappoint you.
